I have beautiful memories of Billy. Visiting him (& Mary) in the maternity hospital. Feeding him bread rolls at his Uncle Christy’s wedding. In recent years, I couldn’t but notice how kind he was when he met our younger children and his willingness to give them time. Billy was such a wonderful man, one of a kind. He will always be in my prayers.
Fond memories of Billy at Uncle Paddy's 50th Ordination Anniversary in Springfort Hall. There was a photographic slideshow of Uncle's life going on after the meal and a young Billy getting somewhat bored no doubt of all these old family photographs and having taken over the slideshow, decided to make it more interesting by substituting some of his favourite Astronomy shots for our benefit. It took us a while to realise the change of slides and that we were looking at pictures of the moon! 😊
Randomly I would hear a weird robotic voice saying “beware” while I was driving but I assumed I was imagining it. I was in the car with billy and I heard the “beware” I asked billy if he heard it and he played dumb. After a couple weeks I was really thinking I was losing my mind so I mentioned it to billy again this time he laughed and informed me that he had set up the radio to say beware at the lowest volume any time I went slightly over the speed limit. He was such a messer!
When I think of Billy as a child I think of the picture of himself and Granny on his First Holy Communion day hanging on the wall up at granny's. Granny was so fond and proud of Billy. More recently, Billy came to Gortmore with Susanna one evening to see Colms first car. He spent hours examining the car and advising what to do to modify it. That evening I became aware that Billy knew people from every corner of the county and beyond, all from his love of cars. After being outside looking at the car for ages, he came into the house and spent hours talking to us about everything. Definitely wise beyond his years...
New years eve's at Carrig. Billy would be around the house showing us random devices that he had modified especially electronics or computers like his Raspberry Pi. He would tell us his best tricks for getting good tips working at the Chinese - warn people about frost, ask them to take their flower pots in if there is a storm due. Then Billy would phone in the order and take Olivia and Conor for a drive in the Merc to collect the food. Happy memories! God bless Billy.
We will always remember when Billy decided to call in to us on the way home after buying a tool box from a man in a Lidl carpark in Charleville.
One very cold Saturday morning I got a call from Billy and his first words were "what are you doing?". I was feeding the cows and asked Why? Billy was stuck up a road out by chimey fields school in the frost and said he needed a pull out as he was stuck as there was ice everywhere. I went out with the tractor to pull him out of where he was. As he walked over to me he fell twice on his ass. I asked him where was he going and his reply was he needed a part for the car. On my whole journey there and back I met no-one else that would venture out that day ......
I have a couple of memory's but a few of my favorite ones were when we would have any family occasion down in nana and grandads he would always try to get as many people as he could despite how late and cold it was to go outside to play a game and once we all did chinese lanterns he bought. Another memory is at the communions we would have he would always go on the boncy castles and throw us around. It was such fun. I miss him
I remember when Billy got fireworks for the end of my communion. They were so cool. Thanks Billy 💕
I remember when we hired out glasses for Nana and Grandads 50th wedding anniversary under one strict condition that the cardboard dividers that separated each glass were carefully minded and returned. All went well until the following morning when we discovered that Billy and the cousins had used them to make a bonfire to toast marshmallows. We had to go around to every off-licence to try and find more... fun times. I miss making tea and having the chats after the work on the car in the shed xxx
We have fond memories of Covid and when Billy took over the calf shed during the summer to strip the merc of many colours. I now have at least 3 different colours on the gates as Billy tested out different colours on the car. We had many chats over this time but every conversation ended up back talking about his love for the car and what he needed to do next. We miss those chats 💓
I will never forget Billy because the week before I started secondary school he had a 2 hour conversation with me talking about all the different teachers and all about the school before I started I really appreciated this as I was the first in my family to start secondary school. Billy will be missed by everyone
I couldn't think of just one memory to sum up my relationship with Billy, whether it was going to Mondello trying to marry me off, drives to the middle of nowhere to get some car part or weekend super macs trips Billy was always fun to be around. One night mam and dad were gone on a night out which left me and Billy home alone we had a chinese and I went up to my room I then heard billy blasting music down stairs and him singing along I went downstairs to see him dancing to footloose. The next day when I mentioned this in front of the rest of the family billy told me to shut up and started throwing rubber straws at me. Even though Billy was 8 years older than me it was like he was the same age as me when we were together as he was always a silly goof and made me laugh. 💗
I first met Billy at Angela’s house, he was always laughing and telling jokes in the kitchen at every family gathering. He was always kind, funny and telling all sorts of enlightening stories. The night before the accident he was at our home, figuring out the problems with my Fiat and with great plans on how to fix it. I will always be grateful for his warm welcome to the family, infectious humour and kindness.
Billy was the most genuine down to earth person I am grateful to have known .
Billy was my very first friend we met at Veronica’s play school when I was 3 and there was always something I liked about billy hence why he was the only boy invited to my primary school birthday parties , one day in primary we had a school tour and I wore a polka dot dress and I remember him saying to his mother how co ordinated I was , I didn’t have a clue what co ordinated even meant , it shows how smart and clued in billy was from a young age ,
The last time we chatted billy was in a shop I worked in at the time , we caught up on our lives since leaving school . You left and said it was nice talking to you Ellen and all I have to say is it was always a pleasure to speak with you to Billy . You were an exceptional person 🤍🤍🤍
Me, Billy, Cathal, and Dylan in the back of French class in TY is genuinely the hardest I’ve ever laughed in school.
Billy was a character to sum it up short. He always made me laugh, effortlessly if I may add. He was the smartest person I knew and I always looked up to him.
A memory I still think of is when we went to Roscommon on a scout trip, billy shared a tent with my brother and few others only to see a clear mark on the ground after of him being spooned. He was traumatised and never let it go.
I’m glad I got to know billy and have so many memories I can laugh about but I only wish we could’ve made more. Missing you more everyday!!
The first time I pulled up in the suzuki, he immediately reffered to it as the bazooki and the name has stuck ever since.
I remember going to the West Cork Rally with Billy. He had just bought the Corolla and he picked me up from home in it. He told me how he had planned to paint the steel wheels silver but the man in Grand Prix had convinced him to try white. He told me he'd painted them while drunk after a night out. I think he used the playing cards around the rim trick. The white looked great. In fact I was very impressed by the Corolla and I decided I wanted one. I'd own one by the end of the year but that's another Billy story.
Anyway in West Cork, we watched a bit of rally. Billy in his Subaru jacket as always. I think he had newish New Balance shoes too. When we got hungry Billy did his typical thing of trying to find a "proper meal" and as per usual I was too stingy and tried to convince him otherwise. While looking for a restaurant in Clonakilty Billy found an iPhone outside a hotel and brought it into the reception. I think there was a wedding on.
We each eventually got a great steal sandwich in SuperValu.
The first time Billy came over to my house was to help me desolder this fancy Adafruit motor controller I had gotten for my Raspberry Pi and made a mess of.
He always had so much knowledge about things I wanted to know about. I don't think I knew anyone back then who was also interested in electronics or knew anything about them.
Also his insistence that he come over to my house to help was very typical of Billy. I don't even think we were that close back then. It was probably 5th year, so I would have just have skipped TY.
